What's the one ritual you practice/follow every day?
Aside from coffee, I’d say my Fitbit data. Every day, I try and hit a step and sleep goal. I set a minimum goal of 12,000 steps per day and a sleep score of at least 75. There’s so much that happens in life we have no control over, at least, I can control how much I move and what time I go to bed.
What ritual brings you the most happiness?
Taking my kids for coffee. I get them steamed milk, and they color with their crayons. Nothing better than being caffeinated and playing with your kids at the same time.
Do you use rituals to help you achieve your goals?
I find that in our pursuit of getting fed, making money, and being happy, we focus too much on the end result. Instead, I focus on my daily rituals. As long as I keep doing my daily rituals, all those goals and the results you desire will ensue.
Do you have any meal-time rituals?
My only meal time ritual is to turn off my computer and my phone.
What advice would you give to anyone that feels unable to reach the next level of success?
My advice would be to focus on the process. Don’t think about success, or wealth, or any end result. Focus on the things you have direct control over, such as your daily habits and rituals. By succeeding at those on a daily basis, the larger goal will be achieved as a byproduct.
When you're feeling drained, what do you do to recharge?
When I’m feeling drained, it’s generally because I’m underslept. To recharge, I go through all of my sleep rituals. I try and turn off my phone at least 30 minutes before bedtime. I have an eye mask, earplugs, and sound machine in my bedroom. (Yeah, don’t laugh.) I have arthritis in my lower back which stops me from getting into deep sleep, so I use a little bit of CBD Medic topical all over my lower back which kind of takes the edge off, so I can get into deep sleep.
What's your favorite quote of all time?
My favorite quote of all time is by Victor Frankel. He says, you cannot pursue success, for success can only ensue as a natural byproduct of dedicating yourself to a process. The more you aim for the goal, the more you will miss it. Focus on the process. The process is the goal.
