What's the one ritual you practice/follow every day?
Do something productive. Whether it’s my workout, cleaning up, or finishing a work project, I need to do something that contributes to making tomorrow an easier or more efficient day.
Do you have any health and/or fitness rituals?
Tracking my macros each day. I know for some people, tracking macros can be stressful, but I’m a numbers person! I get a weird joy out of calculating and tracking my meals for the day. Also, my days get so busy that if I don’t track my meals, I end up not eating enough so, for me, tracking is crucial to ensuring I am eating enough to support my body, energy levels, and my fitness goals.
Who has inspired or influenced any of your rituals?
My community - the #fbggirls! The community is full of women from all over the world who are mothers, students, businesswomen, and some are all of the above. The support, advice, and tips on what rituals have helped them have been lifesavers throughout my own journey!
Do you use rituals to help you achieve your goals?
My rituals help me achieve my goals by breaking down all the big tasks I have into smaller, more manageable tasks. By ensuring I do at least something productive each day (which can be something as simple as laundry!) it allows me to prevent things from piling up day after day.
What was a big setback in your life? What did you do to come back from it?
My infertility journey was a struggle I never anticipated having to endure. It disrupted my entire life as I knew it. My plans, my workouts, what I ate, and definitely my mental and emotional well-being. I had to take a step back from a lot of the plans I had for my life and just take things day by day, but also not let it consume me. That’s pretty hard to do, to be honest, and while I wouldn’t wish for this journey, it’s definitely made me stronger. I don’t think there’s any “comeback” after an infertility struggle, not even a successful pregnancy can heal the wounds caused by infertility, but it gives you a lot of empathy for the millions of other women struggling, and if my struggle can somehow help someone else know they’re not alone in this, then I’m okay with that.
Do you have any meal-time rituals?
Aside from tracking, ensuring I get the majority of my food from whole, natural sources. I feel a huge difference in my body when prioritizing whole foods, so while I won’t pass up a cupcake or slice of pizza here and there, I try to focus on how food will make me feel in the long term vs the short term.
What advice would you give to anyone that feels unable to reach the next level of success?
When you feel unable to reach the next level in your fitness journey, scale back, but don’t give up. Sometimes we need a little recharge, and giving it our all 24/7 is a great recipe for burnout. Take some time to ease up but not throw in the towel, and reassess your routine and see where your efforts haven’t been the most efficient, and adjust accordingly.
What’s your favorite quote of all-time?
"Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right."
